the assignment was to think about ‘Power of Presence / Presence of Power’
Outcome
I asked a colleague to connect me to the class through Skype and to put their laptop on a chair as if I were a participant. The colleague also carried the laptop around to allow me to experience all of the artworks from the proximity of a real person.
I also got connected to the projector and showed a film where a well-known former Harvard academic was advising young people to not go to university as he believed ‘the current post-modern US education system is not allowing free speech in academia’. I then asked the group to express their opinion on the importance of participation in a system that they might perceive as fundamentally .
